HUNI

This was a highlight of Kanazawa for us. The food was delicious and plated playfully. Attention to detail was at the forefront as we got to watch our chef cook and socialize with us. Through the laughter, the drinks and the art upstairs. We created a truly special memory in Kanazawa. Just go and enjoy yourself!

Beautiful restaurant in a 100-yr old building along the river with delicious food and amazing hospitality. Quite an experience! We loved the cold tofu with cod roe and shrimp fried rice.

One of the most unique places I have ever been to. Everything feels so authentic and yet modern. The place is small and the service was outstanding! The food was delicious. The exhibition upstairs is mesmerizing. It felt like I am at home in my living room and enjoying quiet and peace. Definitely one of the most memorable places I have been to!

Maybe the best bar I've visited in Japan, typical welcoming service, and from the get go you are made to feel right at home.The selection of food is great, and honestly everything I tried was delicious. The same can be said of the saki and whiskey.I cannot believe how inexpensive my night was, with four spirits and three plates of food being less than 5000 yen. Cannot recommend this enough and will certainly visit if I'm ever even close to Kanazawa.

We had a great dinner at this bar! Can’t say enough positive things about this restaurant. Delicious, beautiful food! All the dishes were unique, innovative, creative, and expertly made. Beautifully kept building, with amazing wood carvings upstairs. Would highly recommend this place to everyone, English friendly. Definitely coming back here again.

An absolute highlight of our trip not just to Kanazawa but to Japan. My husband and I had the best 3 hours here, eating the most amazing food, drinking sake and plum wine, and chatting with the lovely owner and one of the waitresses. Could not recommend more - I would include Kanazawa in future trips to Japan purely to go back here.

We had an amazing dining experience at Huni. Every dish was simple but packed with flavour and we didn’t want to stop ordering! The chef is friendly and extremely talented and has created a very warm, welcoming space. We had the pleasure of chatting with a local sitting next to us at the bar, who showed us the chef’s wood carvings and truely made our night. We would recommend this as a must if you’re visiting Kanazawa.

Super good Food, nice relaxed atmosphere, great host!

I've had a lot of chicken in my time. Let me just say, this guy can cook a chicken. We went in just to get a drink and a little food and ended up spending a lot of time. Everything we ordered was good. The chicken dishes were particularly tasty. He also had a knack for italian. The sake list is fun and varied. The host/chef is extremely friendly and cool, his english is quite good. The sculpture upstairs is made by the chef and is quite beautiful. We had a great time and it totally defied our expectations. Easily a 5 star experience.

What a gem! Great to see a chef at work, preparing, cooking and serving all his delicious food. Set in a lovely location, too and the atmosphere is very friendly. We would highly recommend a visit but suggest you make a reservation so as you are not disappointed.

Like so many others, we had a wonderful experience eating here. It's an intimate space and you feel like a guest in someone's home rather than like a customer. The food was very good and watching it be prepared was delightful.

Claims to be "just" a bar but has excellent food. Try smoked duck or fried chicken. English spoken by everyone we met there. Beautiful view of river from the bar. Wish I owned the place.

Wonderful food and a quiet, cozy atmosphere. The chef spoke good English and created some of the best food I’ve every eaten in Japan. Portion sizes are modest, so if you are looking for a banquet you may be in the wrong place, but quality is 11 / 10. Would definitely recommend!!

Incredible dinner. Watching a master at work overlooking the river and bridge. My wife who is vegetarian and was pregnant at the time was really well catered for. Incredible night out.

Charming meal by the river with super warm and engaging owner/chef/bartender with a very Japanese but accessible vibe. His wood sculptures upstairs are amazing.

Exquisite experience. This place in itself is a greater highlight of Kanazawa than all the wonderful landmarks in town. I distinctly felt that eating at HUNI was alone worth the trip from Tokyo. Thank you chef for making our honeymoon so special.

We had a fantastic evening at Huni. Fabulous food, great service and relaxing atmosphere. Highly recommend a visit if you are looking for quality food in a quiet area of Kanazawa by the river. We will definitely return on our next visit.

The loveliest restaurant in Kanazawa - the food is great, reasonably priced, and the service is amazing. It feels more like visiting a friend’s home than being in a restaurant. The owner speaks good English and is a very lovely person. We got a lot of good advice on what to eat and experience in Japan. He is also a talented artist and you can see his wood carvings on the second floor. The plum wine selection here is pretty good. If you haven’t tried any yet, this is the place to do it. The owner can help you find the best plum wine for your taste. We tried the local one, which I recommend. Will definitely come back here next time I’m in Kanazawa!

The restaurant is very reasonably priced and the quality of food is good. However, the food took a very long time to arrive, because there is only one chef who is also the owner. The dishes were all pretty good, but not exceptional. The exceptional part was actually the owner’s gallery on the second floor. He is a talented artist and his wood carvings are very impressive.

Superb "modern izakaya" fare. Excellent interior with great music, delightful staff and delicious food. We ordered about ten dishes, all excellent. Their sake selection is also top-notch, including many local varieties. One of my top food choices in Kanazawa, a city of many choices for great food.

The chef and staff here are great. Very reasonable prices. Very well thought out menu items. The only problem was the ingredients. The tomatoes were unripe and the lettuces were watery and flavorless. Great place, just needs better produce sourcing.

Honestly one of the best places we've been to in Japan. Staff were so friendly and happy to have a chat. Drink selection was amazing and prices good. We weren't expecting to stay for food, but was so good we decided to. One of the experiences we will cherish while in Japan.

Delicious food, friendly owner (who is also an amazing artist displaying his art upstairs!), great drinks, and very chill, peaceful atmosphere.As others have pointed out, the fried chicken is marvelously tender and juicy. I also really enjoyed the tuna tartare (?) with egg.

A beautiful intimate little restaurant, with a great view of the river and wonderful food. My wife and I sampled many appetizers, fried dishes, and the duck, lettuce fried rice and they were all delicious and prepared in front of us. Seat yourself at the bar if you can. There are only 2 medium tables, and a bar with 5 seats. But this creates great intimacy!

This is the best restaurant we have been in Japan so far, the place is super cozy and they make you feel at home, in addition the chef is lovely, speaks English and makes delicious dishes.
